Hot Trends for Spring Weddings

Pastels Aplenty
Spring is all about pastels (think: soft yellow, blush pink and light lavender). Layer with shiny metallics like copper and rose gold for a luxe look, or pair with neutrals like gray and taupe to keep the palette from feeling too “Easter.” And don’t be afraid to mix more than two colors. Try dressing your bridesmaids in various shades or create pairings for individual elements of your wedding, like lavender and mint for the ceremony, champagne and yellow for the cocktail hour, and gray and pale blue for the reception. Also hot, Pantone’s Color of the Year, marsala. Because this wine-like hue has rich undertones, pair it with ice blue to soften the look.

Tall Tiers
Wedding cakes are on the rise—in tiers, that is. We’re talking five and six layers, plus the return of columns to give the confections even more height. These sugar masterpieces are as elegant as ever with bold sugar flowers, detailed patterns and pretty piping. A wedding cake is like the exclamation point to your day, so why not go big and tall?

Sassy Skirts
We know how hard it can be to pick just one wedding dress, but thanks to designers like Monique Lhuillier, Dennis Basso and Romona Keveza, you can get two dresses in one. These gorgeous silhouettes with removable skirts stole the show at Bridal Fashion Week and have become a must-have for fashion-forward brides everywhere. Now you can look glamorous for your strut down the aisle and also be ready to boogie come reception time.

Bold Brows and Colored Nails
A well-shaped brow can totally transform your best features, so don’t be tempted to over-tweeze! Instead, blend over-plucked or sparse areas with a brow pencil in a matching shade (try to stick with a hue that’s one to two shades from your natural hair color). Pair with a pale pink lip for a stunning, natural bridal look. And while you’re at it, add just a little intensity to that mani. Bridal nails are getting a subtle wash of color thanks to some pastel-hued polishes in shades of soft peach and light lavender. It’s enough color to be noticed while still being refined.

Passed Eats
From artisan spirits to interactive food stations, spring receptions are all about the eats and specialty sips. If you’re opposed to a sit-down dinner, consider this new twist on food stations: Serve a whole meal in small plates passed by servers. Your caterer can create a menu that moves from light cocktail bites to heavier hors d’oeuvres and finishes with something sweet. Your guests will be free to chat and move about the party (no bad table assignments here!) and still get fed. Consider sourcing locally produced spirits or having a bar stocked with a single liquor (whiskey is pretty popular), bitters and colorful glassware so guests can help themselves.

Floral Prints
Add a pop of color with a pretty floral pattern. Pastel, floral-print bridal gowns were big on the spring runways. Want to stick with white? Dress your bridesmaids in a happy print instead. You could even opt for printed floral pocket squares for the guys to tie the whole bridal party look together.

Spring Greens and Blooms
Embrace this blooming season in full force. Green garlands of ivy, lemon leaves or seeded eucalyptus will add a fresh look to long feasting tables or aisles. Or opt for flowering branches, like cherry blossoms or forsythia—they’ll add height to your reception tables and make for easy conversation. Take advantage of spring flowers like sweet peas, lilacs, hyacinths, tulips and peonies (everyone’s favorite wedding flower). Choosing in-season stems gives you the freshest flowers and the most bang for your buck.

Estate Gems
One-of-a-kind engagement rings are trending. Brides and grooms are not only embracing warm tone metals like yellow and rose gold, they’re seeking out unique estate pieces as well. Want a brand-new ring, but love the vintage-heirloom look? Designers like Catbird, Anna Sheffield, and Trumpet and Horn are creating vintage-inspired designs that give you the best of both worlds.

Gaga for Gold
Gold foil reigns! The foil trend—gold, rose gold, sliver and copper—is here to stay. From light dustings to full-on gold rushes, this luxe printing technique can add a fancy touch to an otherwise casual invitation, or can really dress up black-tie correspondence. Bold pops of color are also trending (think: your envelope, a vibrant belly band or a colorful patterned invite backing).

Haute Hair
If you’re not the veil-wearing type, you’re in luck. This spring is all about the hair accessory. From ethereal tiaras to flowering vines and bridal hats, there’s something for every bridal look. Choose a piece that complements the style of your dress, like a gold-leaf tiara paired with a long-sleeve gown. If you want to modify your look between the ceremony and reception without changing your dress, switch up your hair accessory to something more playful.

HP x360 and My Spring 2015 Handbag Crushes

So thanks to collectively and HP I have had a chance to make my two favorite addictions collide. Handbags and Tech. How happy can one girl be? Pretty dang happy! I was totally going to do something foodie related for this post but unfortunately we are packing up a lot of items right now and our house is covered in boxes. Plus I figured out that I used the HP x360 more for my handbag shopping than cooking, so here we are! As always, all my awesome opinions are my own!

The HP x360 is perfect for just about anything but handbag related it is perfect for shopping, designing, and watching videos on how a handbag functions. It has 4 modes- Tablet, Laptop, Stand, and Tent mode. My favorite so far is the stand mode because I can lay in bed and feed my Pinterest addiction without the battery heating up.

The tent mode is perfect for listening to music, making a mean cocktail, or following a recipe. And again, it is great for Pinterest.

It is spring time and that means it is time for new handbags! I love when the seasons hit because there are always new colors or new designs that make any outfit spectacular! I thought I would share my top 4 handbag crushes with you because they are pretty amazing and I am sure you will love them too!

Travelon Covertible Backpack Handbag

Travelon is one of the top names in safety and stylish bags for travel. What a lot of people don’t know is that a lot of their travel bags are perfect for every day. This bag can be converted into a dome handle bag, cross-body bag, and a back pack. It has RFID technology which means your cards won’t get scanned while you are shopping. Don’t laugh, it happened to my Dad. He was getting gas and someone used tech to scan his card. By the time he got home $1200 was missing from his account. Thankfully he got it all back but it was a scary experience. We all carry wallets and handbags with RFID protection now. And, if I say so myself, this bag looks pretty stylish while protecting you! I have it in black and champagne. Champagne is my favorite because it is so versatile. They also have fun prints inside!

Anne-Klein Dome Handle Bag

Ever since I found out that I am heading to LA for the Cinderella Event blue has been the color of my life. So when I found this Anne Klein Dome Handle Bag in periwinkle I just had to order it. I am anxiously awaiting for it to get here! I love the softness of the blue and the gold accents. It is going to look great with my jeans and my sun dresses! It is a really good size too, measuring in at 14.75-in. W x 11-in. H x 5.75-in. It is going to be able to handle all of my essentials including my sunglasses, phone, lip gloss, and all the other things I stuff in my purse. I love how I can wear it two ways. Cross-body and by the handle. You will notice a lot of my bags have the cross-body option. I have issues with my shoulders and sometimes it is just easier to carry my bag like that.

Furla Candy Sweetie Mini Satchel

Pink is my favorite color and Spring is the perfect time to carry it. Don’t get me wrong, Pink is a great color all year round, but there is just something special about carrying a pink handbag in Spring. Which is why I am totally loving this Sweetie Mini Satchel by Furla. How gorgeous is this? It just screams Spring! It reminds me of a gigantic piece of bubble gum. It is made with Polyvinyl Chloride and mini is not just a cutie word. It is a mini bag that will fit your cell phone, lip gloss, and small wallet. It only measures 5″ H and 6.5″ W. This is the perfect bag for when you are just running quick errands and don’t need a lot of stuff. You will look cute, stylish (and maybe even a little yummy) carrying it!

Tosa Cross-body Bag

It is my sincere belief that every woman should have a great, neutral leather bag. It doesn’t have to be real leather, it can be synthetic. But it needs to be stylish as well as functional. A good leather bag will be what you carry most. It goes with everything and can withstand the activity in your life. You don’t have to be like me and buy a new leather bag just because it is a different season. You can buy one and carry it all year long. I have many leather bags but I am totally crushing on this Tosa Cross-body bag. It is amazing. I actually had a friend turn me onto this bag and we tried hard to get together so I could get a personal photo but our schedules didn’t mesh. It is still on my wish list for the Spring though. A good leather bag should be something you want to carry a lot. It should be large enough to fit just about everything. The Tosa is large enough to fit the HP x360 inside. So that should give you an idea on size. Plenty of pockets are a must as well as zipper compartments. A good liner is also important because it protects against rippage.

Sacs Of Life Can Help Your Child Run Away In Style

Shocking title, yes? When Alianna was 9 she threatened to run away from home. Instead of trying to stop her or reason with her, I helped her pack. It all ended well, of course. She never even got out the door before she started crying and telling me she never wanted to leave me.

One of the things I remember is the bag she picked. It was this ratty old bag that she loved. It was full of holes and only held her pj’s, a tooth brush, and her beloved teddy bear. It wasn’t stylish or even functional. I guess when I think about it I realize that she wasn’t thinking about all the cold nights she would spend away from me, she was thinking about the fact this was a piece of home. I still tear up when I think about it because even though I was freaking out on the inside I couldn’t help but smile a little because she was so small but determined she was leaving the house. I still say that day was the day she found her independence. I think about it from time to time for sure.

I guess that is why when I received the Bella Duffster from Sacs of Life I immediately thought “Wow, if Alianna had this when she was going to run away she could have ran away in style.” Not only is it completely girlie and gorgeous, it is functional. It folds up into a square that is easy to store and when you need it you can turn it into a full size bag.

How incredibly awesome is that? That is why I love Annette. She thinks about Moms, the space we are always battling, and how we need things to function. This folds up, takes very little space, but when I am ready to travel it is a full size bag that I can get a few days worth of clothes in. It is like she is in my head and knows what I need. You may remember Annette from my Metro Bag review. She is still kinda my hero. She is pretty awesome.

The Duffster comes in several styles including:

Groovy Gravy

Black and White

Animal Print

15 No Sew Projects That Make Great Holiday Gifts

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”14148″ border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]When the girls were younger I loved to sew. I used to make blankets, kitchen accessories, and of course handbags.

But over the years life has gotten hectic and I just don’t have the time anymore. The sewing machine sits in the corner unused. It makes me a little sad.

I still like to be creative though and I love no sew projects. They give me a chance to give a special gift that is handmade but doesn’t take as much time.

I compiled a list of some of my favorite no sew projects for holiday gifts and hopefully you will find a little something to make for a loved one in your life![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_custom_heading text=”15 No Sew Projects For Holiday Gifts” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:20|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Delius%3Aregular|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_single_image image=”14118″ border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]No Sew Ruffle Tree Skirt

This tree skirt will save you time ( and money)! It is a little girly and can be done in all colors. I think I would love it in an icy blue and sparkly white!

Metro Bag – What Every Busy Person (and MOM) Needs

I am addicted to handbags.

It is so bad that sometimes my family will make me stop buying cold turkey.

There may be some screaming, crying, and begging involved.

There may also be some hiding in the shower with a tablet and adding to a handbag wish list.

When I became a Mom I was excited because it gave me an excuse to buy a huge handbag. No diaper bag for this girl, no way. Of course it didn’t end up that way because there never seemed to be enough room for everything I wanted to bring. So it was a huge handbag AND a diaper bag.

The girls are older now and I STILL find myself carrying a big handbag because 15 minutes into shopping I will hear:

“Mom, can you put my lipgloss in your purse?”

“Mom can you put my phone in your purse?”

Or, before I leave the house I will need to pack for 3 people because unfortunately my girls do not have my handbag addiction. They both refuse to carry a handbag and will use their pockets instead.

Which means I am the one that will be holding the lipgloss, phone, tablet, ear buds, etc. If only you could see the “UGH” look on my face right now.

( disclaimer so I look all spammy and whatnot- I received the Metro Bag for free in exchange for a review. Opinions are 100% my own and I truly do love the bag. Like marry it kind of love. Seriously. Don’t judge.)

When Annette, owner and creator of Sacs of Life contacted me and asked if I would like to try out some of their bags. I jumped on it because she is a Mom and she knows what a Mom wants.

She is kind of like my new hero.
