I made an earlier post about DIY Lipgloss and admitted that the project did not go really well. The lipgloss was kind of grainy and wasn’t very firm. It didn’t stop the girls from loving it but I wasn’t pleased with it and knew we could make better.
So I experimented and figured out where I went wrong. We needed to melt the vaseline first. Once we did that it was easy peasy and worked like a dream. The proof is in the picture:
After we melted the vaseline we added our fruit flavored drink mixes and then poured them in the little containers. I got those containers at the Dollar Tree and they were only 10 for 1.0o. Then we set it in the fridge to firm back up and it turned out much better! We made a few different ones including Hawaiian Punch. We will definitely be doing this more in the future and I am already counting the money I am going to save on lip gloss and chapstick! Cha Ching 😀
I found some recipes while surfing this week that I wanted to share. Please note most of these are relatively easy. Like I have stated before I am not a june cleaver by any means. I try to keep things simple and tasty.
One of my favorite desserts is Butterscotch Pudding and I found a great recipe on Annie’s Eats:
Wow, look at that. Wouldn’t that be gorgeous on your Easter table! We are always looking for new recipes to try during the holidays. Making the same old thing gets boring. What are some of your favorite recipes for Easter? Please share!
International Children’s Book Day was created in 1967 on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday of April 2nd. It is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books.
Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish fairy tale and children’s story book author who wrote such titles as: The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Little Match Girl, and The Ugly Duckling.
In honor of International Children’s Book Day and Hans Christen Andersen’s Birthday we here at TOAMW&D and Dishin with Rebelle are giving away ” The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christen Andersen and Jerry Pinkney
For over one hundred years The Ugly Duckling has been a childhood favorite, and Jerry Pinkney’s spectacular new adaptation brings it triumphantly to new generations of readers. With keen emotion and fresh vision, the acclaimed artist captures the essence of the tale’s timeless appeal: The journey of the awkward little bird — marching bravely through hecklers, hunters, and cruel seasons — is an unforgettable survival story; this blooming into a graceful swan is a reminder of the patience often necessary to discover true happiness. Splendid watercolors set in the lush countryside bring drama to life.
Have you signed up for Tasting Table yet? OMG! You haven’t? Then you need to. Right.Now. It is the most awesome website I have come across lately. I just don’t even know where to begin. Yes, yes I do. With the edible classroom. It is a classroom where you can learn, yes learn, everything. There are videos, how-to’s, etc. You need to be logged in and join to see but here is a screen shot:
I am one of those people afraid of Tofu. I love tofu when it is fixed right but have never been comfortable with fixing it. I learned a lot just from the video and the book is on my list. There are lots more things to learn and I know any self proclaimed foodie would love it.
Then there is Chef’s Recipes. Three times a week they send you a newsletter with a top chef recipe that can be adapted to cook at home. Who doesn’t want to cook like a top chef from a fabulous resturaunt? I do, most definitely. Sign up for this newsletter!
Then there are food events. Not just national but also Local. Tasting Table caters to five major cities:
1. New York
5. San Francisco
They also have national events which seem awesome. This is great for someone that is traveling and may want to attend a foodie event. Speaking of Traveling, they have a traveling section too. You can choose a city or destination to find the hottest places to dine and some are even off the beaten path. I know when I visit some where new I love to eat at a place not everyone is. Rachael Ray taught me that 😀 Of course they also include National and Local places.
I just really can’t say enough about this web site. I know I will be here often and will enjoy the wonderful newsletters I will be getting. I will share the ones that are of interest with you guys. I highly recommend you get an account and explore. Just make sure you have a snack with you! That site makes you famished!
